Kevalin
(केवली)Literal Meaning
The omniscient one
Etymology & Sanskrit Root
From 'kevala' (complete, pure); the title of one who has attained kevala-jnana — complete, unlimited knowledge — while the physical body still lives on.
Spiritual Insight & Context
Becoming a kevalin does not end embodied life — many, like Rishabhanatha's son Bharata Chakravartin, attain complete knowledge while still living ordinary lives, with final liberation (nirvana) coming only at death.
