Panj Pyare
(पंज प्यारे)Literal Meaning
The Five Beloved Ones
Etymology & Sanskrit Root
From 'panj' (five) + 'pyare' (beloved) — the first five Sikhs who stepped forward willing to offer their heads to Guru Gobind Singh Ji at Vaisakhi 1699, becoming the founding core of the Khalsa.
Spiritual Insight & Context
The Panj Pyare came from different castes and regions, embodying the Khalsa's casteless unity — even today, the Amrit Sanchar initiation ceremony is conducted by five baptized Sikhs in their memory.
