Background
Sanskrit Documents prints a Hanuman Ashtottara Shatanamavali, the 'Madanjaneya' list, with a note that it is taken from the Kalikarahasya; 82 of the 108 names here agree with it word for word, and the rest differ in wording or order, as recensions of such lists do. The names, numbered 1 to 108, recall Hanuman's leap across the ocean, his bringing the Sanjeevani herb for Lakshmana and his consoling of Sita in Lanka, events told in the Valmiki Ramayana. Devotees chant them on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Hanuman Jayanti as a shield against fear and misfortune.
