Background
This namavali honours Venkatesha, also called Srinivasa, the presiding Lord of the Tirumala hills in the Sri Vaishnava tradition, and is chanted in daily worship and on special days. It begins 'Om Venkateshaya namah' and ends 'Om Srinivasaya namah'. The text matches the Sri Venkateshwara Ashtottara Shatanamavali printed in Stotra Nidhi; no author or Puranic source is named there, and none is claimed here.
Did You Know?
The Hills
The names map the sacred range: Sheshadri-nilaya (name 2), Vrishadri-pati (6), Tarkshyachala-nivasin, the hill of Garuda (28), and Niladri-nilaya (99). The Lord is named by the very hills where pilgrims climb.
The Waters
Tirtha-panchaka-vasin (42), the tirtha-svami-sarah-snata name (56) for those who bathe in the Swami tank, and Suvarnamukhari-snata (105) bring the holy waters of Tirumala into the litany.
Forms of Vishnu
Matsya (70), Kurma (59), the Boar (58), Trivikrama (95), Rama (12), Balabhadra (94) and Krishna (20) appear among the names, showing Venkatesha as the same Lord who took these forms.
A Giver of Wishes
Arthitartha-pradatri (54), 'who grants what is asked', and samasta-phala-dayin (106), 'giver of every fruit', are among the names that make this litany a prayer for boons.
Boundless Form
Ananta-shiras, ananta-aksha and ananta-charana (31 to 33), 'of endless heads, eyes and feet', stand beside nitya-yauvana-murti (53), 'of ever-youthful form', joining the infinite and the near.
